An Introduction to Me!

 Howdy!

My name is Keana Jones and welcome to my blog spot! I have lived in Norman most of my life and moved here from Washington state when I was around three or four. I am currently a senior and an HES major, pre-occupational therapy! I was in physical therapy before but decided to switch to occupational therapy as I found more interest in it. Occupational therapy appealed more to me that physical therapy mainly due to my summer job and my gap year program. I have worked for a foundation with programs designed for individuals with disabilities for the past few years. Through those experiences I was able to exercise some small knowledge of OT and help our students progress in their fine motor skills.

My fun goal in life would be to work for a summer camp for the rest of my life. I just love the outdoors and the fun times that I had as an employee and I think it would be a fun and inspiring job to work for them full time. I have prepped myself in case that doesn't happen, however, and am looking to work as an occupational therapist and maybe open my own practice. I would love to specialize in working with the disability community improving ADLs or activities of daily living.

A fun fact is my happy place is where ever the sunrise is. I love watching the beginning of a new day. It makes me feel so joyful watching the sun peak up from out of the ground and that joy continues throughout the while day. One of my favorite moments of 2021 so far is driving up to the Pretty Place Chapel in South Carolina and watching the sun rise from the mountains. It was incredible beautiful and I felt so blessed to be able to witness it. There are a couple photos I got a bit after the initial rise. So if you know any good spots to watch the sunrise, I am all ears!

I am excited for this class and can't wait to get more in depth. I think that the layout of the course is fun will keep things interesting. This is a strange and stressful year, but this class will help provide some relief and consistency for me which is very welcome and needed. I loved the last mythology and folklore class so I am pumped to see what this class in store! I do not know much in terms of Indian epics so it will be fun to dive into the history and culture.

  1. Hello Keana!
I also love sunrises, I just struggle to wake up early enough to watch them so I settle for sunsets most days. You mentioned that you have lived in Norman for most of you life, do you have any favorite restaurants to recommend or favorite study spots? I am a freshman this year and due to covid I decided to move back home for the year to save money, so when I move back to Norman I will have a lot of catching up to do.

  2. This is so cool, Keana: I am working through the Indian Epics introductions, and I just had three-in-a-row of people coming back from Myth-Folklore last semester or from an even earlier semester. It is very nice to already know people in class as the new semester is just getting started! And since you are in the India class this time, I have to tell you about this amazing professor at OU: do you know Aparna Nair? She studies disability in South Asian cultures (so, by culture that means: in life, in literature, etc.)... if you look through her work at Twitter, you might get some ideas for topics of interest to you in terms of working with the disability community! Here is her Twitter: Aparna Nair ... she's in the OU History of Science department, and she uses the #DisHist hashtag at Twitter; it is always full of fascinating stuff from all over the world, and you can even search on #DisHist india... you'll see lots of Dr. Nair's work there. I am a big fan!

  3. Hey Keana! I can totally relate to your love for summer camps; I worked as a summer camp counselor back in my hometown in Texas for two summers in a row after my junior and senior years of high school. It was a lot of fun; as far as jobs go, it is one of the most entertaining in my opinion. However, I cannot relate to your love for sunrises simply because I do not like getting up early unless I have to! I can appreciate sunsets, though.

  4. Hi Keana, I think its awesome that you are from around here! It's such a nice area! I've never really been a big summer camp person, I have never actually been to an outdoors one you see in the movies, but I bet that would be such a cool job! I know a lot of people who absolutely adore serving as summer camp counselors and getting to mentor people. Your enthusiasm for life and watching the sunrise is so nice! I definitely need to do that more!

I hope you have a great semester, and I hope to read some of your work!

  6. Hello Keana! I loved reading about your love of sunrises. I'm usually holed up in a practice room early in the morning before my classes start, and it's always a perfect start to my day when I catch the sun rising. I've never heard of the Pretty Place Chapel before I read your introduction, but the beautiful views in your pictures make me want to visit now! It was really great to meet you, I hope you have a great semester :)

  7. Howdy Keana!
I was a camp counselor for one summer session and it was quite the experience. I commend you on your passion towards wanting to work with kids and teens year-round if you could. However, it does seem like a fulfilling experience. I am embarrassed to say that I have never actively seen a sunrise. I've been awake when its still dark and I am a morning person, but I have still never seen one with the intention of seeing one, if that makes sense. They are very beautiful though! I especially love your second picture, seeing the warm colors reflecting off of every surface.

  8. Hi Keana! It is kind of rare for me to hear a person loving sunrises. I usually have people tell me they are more of a sunset person Both are amazing to view, especially in Oklahoma. You seem like such a bright, fun, bubbly person. Your passion of working at a summer camp seems like it would be perfect for you! Best of luck to your future in occupational therapy and summer camps, you can do it!

  9. Hi Keana! I have recently seen The Pretty Place chapel on many of my social media platforms. It looks like a really beautiful place in all the pictures I have seen. I've been to South Carolina before for a sports competition and it was all so beautiful but I was unaware of the chapel at the time so I didn't make a trip there.Did you drive all the way to South Carolina for the view, or did you have a whole vacation planned?

  10. Hey Keana!

I also think working at a summer camp would be fun. The outdoors and nature appeal to me so much. I wish I could just go and live in the woods for a week or so. Sunrises are so beautiful. Pretty Place Chapel sounds amazing. If I ever go to South Carolina one day, I will definitely visit that place. This class seems like a lot of fun. I have never done anything like this, but I am enjoying it quite a bit. I did not get to take the mythology and folklore class, but I am glad I was able to take this class.

  11. Hi Keana! That is so cool that you are working to be an occupational therapist! I also love how you want to be a camp counselor year-round, I have many fond summer camp memories as well, and it definitely sounds like you'd be great at it! Your part about sunrises really got to me--I love being outside in the morning when the sun is just rising and the air is slightly chilly and it is so quiet outside that the only sounds are nature. I don't experience it as often as I am sure you do, but it is so wonderful!

  12. Hey Keana! I definitely need to go watch the sunrise, especially over the mountains. I’m a huge fan of sunsets because I am awful at waking up early, but both the beginning and the end of the day are so beautiful. The sky always looks like a painting! I love your sunrise pictures; they capture a sense of peace and calmness.

  13. Hey Keana!
I love how you appreciate a new day every time. Having the sunrise be your favorite place is incredible and I really admire how you can appreciate every new day, it truly is a present! Also, I love summer camps too! They are the best way to escape from life and learn new things while having so much fun and making new friends. All my favorite summer camps were outdoor camps when I was a kid. I loved to play in water and catch frogs! You also made me want to visit the Pretty Place Chapel!

  14. Hey Keana!
I would love to be able to catch the sunrise on a regular basis; unfortunately, I'm an extreme night owl. If I'm lucky, I'll catch a glimpse of it before going to bed. Usually by that point I'm too tired to appreciate it though. A career of summer camps would definitely be an interesting experience. Best of luck to you in getting things to work out on that front!

  15. Hi Keana! I am also an HES major! It is very cool to see that one of your goals is to work at a camp. Working outside all the time with kids would be so much fun and I am glad you have found a passion of yours. The sunrise is one of the coolest things I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. It really makes you take a step back and look at the world and life in a different perspective. I hope everything works out for you and good luck in the future!

  16. Hello Keana. I think that it is really cool you are an HES as I am a big health and exercise nut. I also think that it is cool you want to work at a summer camp for the rest of your life as summer is probably my favorite season. Especially since there are a lot of different activities you can do outside in the summer too. It was great to meet you and I wish you luck on the rest of the semester.

  17. Hey Keana, HES is a such a cool major. A couple of my friends are HES majors and they seem to really enjoy it. I took one HES class just as my science without a lab and it was really interesting. Working at a camp and including your major is a really cool idea. You could teach kids early on the importance of physical and mental health to try and lead them in the right direction in life and positively impact them.
